The finishing quality of a flatwork ironer strongly depends on good contact between the linen and the heated ironer chest. The correct quality and construction of the spring padding – the resilient underpadding beneath the ironer felt – is therefore essential.
Even a small reduction in ironer roll diameter can significantly affect finishing quality. On modern ironers with deep chests and large roll diameters, technical calculations show that a loss of only 2 mm in the roll padding build-up can reduce finishing quality by up to 40%.
Efficient evacuation of moisture and steam is equally important. When the spring padding is worn, contaminated or blocked, the evaporation process cannot operate optimally. More moisture may remain in the ironer felt, affecting not only drying and finishing performance but also accelerating felt wear. Particularly with ironer felts containing polyester, excess moisture can weaken the fibres more quickly, causing the felt to become thinner and wear out faster.
Open and properly functioning spring padding therefore contributes not only to good finishing quality, but also to a longer service life of the ironer felt.

The spring is securely fixed to a preformed base band. This reduces the risk of the spring becoming detached, even during intensive use or when unexpected objects enter between the ironer roll and the chest.
Perforated construction
The perforated base band allows the suction through the ironer roll to operate as freely as possible and supports efficient evacuation of moisture and steam. This contributes to proper operation and a longer service life of the ironer felt.
Extra-wide hooked surface
The wide surface provides good and even support for the ironer felt. It promotes heat transfer and helps prevent the spring from pushing through the felt over time.
Suitable for extra-wide ironers

For certain Lapauw ironers equipped with heavy MONO ironer felts, springs are used that are mounted directly onto the ironer roll.
This construction keeps the openings in the ironer roll free, allowing air, moisture and steam to be evacuated efficiently. The correct version depends on the ironer type, roll diameter and original machine configuration.
